TriMail Biological Agriculture was established in 2014 in Ankara University Technology Development Zone with the support of T.C. Ministry of Industry and Technology Techno venture capital. It is a technology-based company focused on R&D and innovation. The Technology Readiness Level of our 2 commercialised products is 7. Agricultural engineers and candidate students working as volunteers are supported together with our staff actively working in our company.
Our company has undertaken the industrial consultancy of 2 projects for undergraduate students within the scope of TUBITAK 2209-B- Industry Oriented Undergraduate Graduation Thesis Support Programme. TUBITAK 2244- Industry Doctorate Programme supports 5 doctoral students in the Pre-Competition programme. With our TAGEM project, projects focused on biological control are developed with the technologies in the process until the mass production and release of beneficial insects against insects that damage vineyard, garden and field plants. The production and release technology of 2 beneficial insects in apple, vineyard and walnut will be developed and will be put into use as a commercial product after obtaining a licence. With this project, 10 institutions including Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture, Kırıkkale University Kırıkkale Vocational School, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Agriculture and Technologies, Ankara Agricultural Control Central Research Institute Directorate, Manisa Viticulture Research Institute Directorate, Kayseri Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Manisa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Afyonkarahisar Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Ankara Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and our company are successfully carrying out public-university-private sector cooperation.
Since its establishment, it has successfully completed many projects by working with Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture. As of 2015, biological control based integrated struggle studies, which started in apple orchards, continue in walnut orchards in Polatlı, in the vineyard areas of Kalecik Research Station of our faculty, and with producers in Afyonkarahisar, Manisa, Niğde, Kayseri, Sakarya provinces outside Ankara. The releases made by the company are monitored throughout the production season.
Mass production of Trichogramma evanescens
Species belonging to the genus Trichogramma are about 0.4 mm in length and are very difficult to see with the naked eye. These beneficial bees have no harm to plants and animals. The female bees lay their eggs inside the egg of the pest and prevent the development of the pest.
Hosts
Eggs of butterflies and moths
Areas of Usage
Orchards, forest areas, vegetable gardens
‘Environmental Insect’
The egg parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens Westwood (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidee), which is naturally found in the fauna of Turkey, can suppress many insects damaging plants. In our country, there is no local commercial mass production and release of this beneficial bee. Therefore, a project on ‘Mass production of egg parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens’ was submitted within the scope of the Techno-Entrepreneurship Capital Support implemented by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology for young entrepreneurial researchers and the project was successfully completed with support. With this project, ‘biological control’, which is an alternative to the use of pesticides in the fight against harmful insects, is proposed to producers. Domestic prototype mass production of T. evanescens, which will work under the trade name ‘Environmental Insect’ in production areas, has been developed.
Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture, A.Ü. Teknokent and A.Ü. Technology Transfer Office strategically support TriMail Biological Agriculture. With this support, the production technique of the egg parasitoid (Trichogramma evanescens) and its host flour moth (Ephestia kuehniella) and fig borer (Cadra cautella) has been developed. Our company has started to work on the commercialisation of these insects.
